QR Code System

Every animal gets a unique QR code. Print them, attach to tubs, and scan to quickly log activity.

Bin Tags & Invoices

Print bin tags from any animal record. Generate invoices from sold animals in the Sales tab.

Unique ID System

Every animal and clutch in THE RACK gets a Unique ID. This ID is the backbone of your data - it links activity logs, clutch records, pairings, sales history, QR codes, and bin tags together.

ID Formats

When using Auto-Generate mode, THE RACK creates IDs in these formats:

Type Format Example
Breeders B-YYYY-#### B-2026-0001
Hatchlings H-YYYY-#### H-2026-0001
Clutches CL-YYYY-#### CL-2026-0001

Unique ID Mode

Choose how IDs are assigned in Settings > Breeding Settings:

Auto-Generate (Default)

THE RACK automatically creates IDs using the formats above. Just add animals and they get assigned automatically.

Best for: Most breeders, especially those starting fresh

Custom IDs

You enter your own ID when adding a new animal. Use any format you want.

Best for: Breeders with an existing ID system

Important: IDs Are Permanent

Once a Unique ID is assigned to an animal, it cannot be changed.

This is by design for data integrity. The ID links to:

  • Activity logs (feedings, weights, pairings)
  • Clutch records (sire/dam linkage)
  • Sales history
  • QR codes and bin tags you have printed

Changing the ID would break all these connections.

Switching ID Modes

You can switch between Auto-Generate and Custom modes anytime. However:

  • The mode change only affects new animals going forward
  • Existing animals keep their original IDs forever
  • You cannot retroactively change IDs on existing records

Frequently Asked Questions

I switched to Custom IDs mode, but my existing animals still show auto-generated IDs. Why?

Once a Unique ID is assigned to an animal (whether auto-generated or custom), it becomes permanent and cannot be changed. This is by design:

  • Data Integrity - The ID links to activity logs, clutch records, pairings, and sales history
  • QR Codes - Printed QR codes and bin tags reference that ID
  • Industry Standard - No breeding software allows changing IDs after creation

The Custom IDs setting only affects NEW animals. Existing animals keep their original IDs forever.

Can I use both Auto-Generate and Custom IDs?

Yes. You can switch modes anytime. Animals created in Auto mode have auto-generated IDs, and animals created in Custom mode have your IDs. Both coexist without issues.

What happens to my data if I stop using THE RACK?

THE RACK is a one-time purchase with lifetime access. Your data is stored in a Google Sheet in your Google Drive, so you always have direct access to it.
